You may not know too much about it, but some things you might see online are myths that may stop you from getting it. So, here is the truth behind three common misconceptions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Myth #1: You Will Go to Sleep with Dental Sedation<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Many people are worried that getting dental sedation means they will fall asleep with it. They don\u2019t like the idea of going unconscious, but this isn\u2019t the case at all. No matter if you\u2019re getting laughing gas (also known as nitrous oxide) or oral conscious sedation, you won\u2019t be put to sleep.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The goal for these is meant to help you relax, so you might actually feel so calm that you doze off by yourself. The comfort you feel is to blame, but whichever you get won\u2019t make this happen. Your dentist will be able to wake you up with a couple of nudges, and you can follow simple directions while answering easy questions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Myth #2: It\u2019s Unsafe to Get Dental Sedation<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

With the couple of different types of dental sedation there are, many people can generally find one that works for them. For instance, nitrous oxide offers the mildest effects. It’s a gas that you breathe in, so it’s often used for kids and adults alike.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While there are a few cases where it’s not safe, your dentist can help you determine that it will have no complications. They’ll consider things like pregnancy, previous experience with sedation, certain medical conditions, and allergies to make sure it’s a great and effective option.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Myth #3: Dental Sedation is Only Available for Complex Treatments<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Since you can feel more relaxed with dental sedation, you may imagine it\u2019s for those in-depth and complex treatments people dread, such as wisdom tooth extractions or root canals. While it’s used in these services, you can opt to get it during something like a simple cleaning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What comes into account is the appropriate strength of sedation. Laughing gas and oral conscious sedation offer different levels, with the latter being stronger. You won’t be able to drive if you get that one, so you may choose nitrous oxide instead if it\u2019s a minor service. That way, you can feel more relaxed regardless of the treatment you\u2019re getting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
